The Ölverk Brewery in Hveragerdi/ Iceland brews beer with support of geothermal energy, but also operates a popular local brew pub and pizza place. Worth a visit.

Local english-language paper The Reykjavik Grapevine published a nice article about Ölverk a small brewery, brew pub and pizza place, a small family-owned business in Hveragerdi in the South part of Iceland.

Having actually sampled the beer at a meeting of the Icelandic Geothermal Association, I might have to make my way there soon.

The article provides a good background on the start and operation of the brewery and pub.

Hveragerdi lies not far from the Hellisheidi geothermal plant and the surrounding area has a lot of active geothermal features, such as the Reykjadalur – The Hot Spring Valley. There are also large geothermal energy heated greenhouse operations in the community, and at some point it housed the “largest banana plantation north of the Alpes” …
