Under the EU-funded Geothermica initiative, a Call for Geothermal Projects will be issued this spring for direct heating and cooling, industrial processes, power generation and energy storage projects.

The joint European geothermal research consortium GEOTHERMICA supported by the European Union has announced that it will open a Call for Geothermal Projects “Accelerating the deployment of geothermal energy in Europe” in the spring of this year. This was announced by European Commission Project Officer, Ms. Susanna Galloni, at a geothermal event in Germany yesterday.

From 1 January 2017, 13 European countries and the EC joined forces to accelerate the deployment of geothermal energy under the name GEOTHERMICA. This network will publish a multi-million EUR call for innovative geothermal projects early April 2017.

This new funding opportunity offered by GEOTHERMICA is directly aligned with the Europe aim to increase the share of renewable energy for direct heating and cooling, industrial processes, power generation and energy storage. GEOTHERMICA will call for innovative demonstration projects and technology development projects that accelerate geothermal energy deployment. Projects will deliver outcomes by 2021.

Joint projects will have a strong industry participation. Project proposals will meet both, GEOTHERMICA and national/ regional funding rules.
