Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc president told local reporters late Thursday that the company is keen on bidding for power plants and supply contracts.

The Aboitiz Group has expressed interest in acquiring government-owned power supply contracts in Mindanao. Erramon I. Aboitiz, Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc president, told local reporters late Thursday that the company is keen on bidding for power plants and supply contracts.

“We tend to look at all the power biddings, try to understand them and decide if we want to participate,” he said.

Among the assets the company wants to pursue is the government’s contracted capacity with the 92-megawatt (MW) Mt. Apo geothermal plants in North Cotabato. The bidding for the contracted supply, which state-run Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp (Psalm) will conduct, is scheduled on September 24.

Aboitiz said the conglomerate may also bid for government’s contracted capacity with the 210-MW STEAG State Power Inc coal plant in Misamis Oriental.

“I think part of the schedule of Psalm is also to do the STEAG IPPA. We will look at that also,” he said, referring to the independent power producer administrator contract.

Psalm had scheduled to bid out the STEAG contract next year. Aboitiz said the conglomerate will spend P80 billion over the next five years to ramp up the group’s power generating capacity by another 2,000 MW.

At present, the Aboitiz Group, through Aboitiz Power Corp, has a portfolio of 2,300 MW from a combination of conventional and renewable energy plants across the country.
