The city government is draining its accounts for exploring Makushin Volcano, saying the project is too expensive and risky to pursue any further.

Disappointing news from Alaska, where a geothermal project at Unalaska, being deliberated for more than 30 years receives yet another blow, and it might the the final nail in the coffin.

According to local news, “The city government is draining its accounts for exploring Makushin Volcano, saying the project is too expensive and risky to pursue any further.”

The same article covers those 30 years of failed geothermal development, where the costs, the resource owners, oil prices and other varied issues have caused the project to die from a thousand cuts.

“Right now, it’s just pretty much a dead project,” says city public utilities director Dan Winters.
