ENAP has been allowed by the Chilean Chamber of Deputies to move into the electricity and geothermal energy generation business.

Local news from Chile state that in a recent vote in the country’s Chamber of Deputies, the proposal submitted by the current government that allows the National Petroleum Company (ENAP) to enter the electricity and geothermal energy generation business has been approved.

This gives more freedom of movement for the state company to develop new projects (renewable and also in geothermal).

The country had a long standing debate in the matter, where politicians debated on the diversification of ENAP and the implications of the operation. At least now the door is open to ENAP to diversify on renewable projects.
