German geothermal developer Deutsche ErdWaerme GmbH acquires geothermal exploration permit Waghäusel-Philippsburg on the Upper Rhine located in the Rhine valley in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

In a release before the weekend, German geothermal developer Deutsche ErdWärme GmbH announces having acquired the exploration permit Waghäusel-Philippsburg for geothermal energy development.

The permit extends over parts of the districts of the district town of Waghäusel, the city of Philippsburg and the community Oberhausen-Rheinhausen, north of Karlsruhe, located in the Rhine valley in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg.

Erhard Schmitteckert, graduate engineer for process engineering from Waghäusel, has transferred his license to Deutsche Erdwärme. “The extraction of geothermal energy offers the opportunity to locally promote the energy transition with renewable energy. I have been pursuing this goal as a project initiator since the turn of the millennium. I welcome the fact that with Deutsche Erdwärme an efficient partner from the region has now taken over the license with which we can implement this project together safely and reliably “, explains Schmitteckert explaining the reasons for the cooperation.

With the takeover, which still has to be formally approved by the Mining authorities, Deutsche Erdwärme has a total of six exploration permits on the Upper Rhine with a total area of approximately 1,000 km2. Deutsche Erdwärme consolidates its position as the largest private project developer in the field of deep geothermal energy in Germany.

“By acquiring this exploration license, we are expanding our project portfolio on the Upper Rhine around an attractive area in the north of Karlsruhe. Our search permits extend from Speyer in the north to Baden-Airpark in the south, “said Michael Erler, Managing Director of Deutsche Erdwärme GmbH.

“We intend to realize and operate several geothermal plants on the Upper Rhine in the coming years. At the same time, further exploration permits are to be gained in order to develop additional, promising areas in the region for deep geothermal energy, “says Michael Erler, explaining the strategy of the Deutsche Erdwärme.

After the transfer of the Waghäusel-Philippsburg permit, Deutsche Erdwärme will first analyze the existing geological data and start planning further exploration activities.
