The German geothermal energy sector mourns the loss of Dr. Christian Hecht of Stadwerke Munich, who suddenly passed away last week.

News of the unexpected death of Dr. Christian Hecht of Stadtwerke Munich, Germany, reached us today. These are sad news on a very valued colleague of the geothermal sector in Germany that leaves a void for the sector.

After various research stays and activities, including in Liverpool and Halle, he devoted himself intensively to deep geothermal energy with his work at HotRock in Karlsruhe, Germany. Here he was involved in various geothermal projects, including the Insheim project. Since 2013, he worked for the Stadtwerke Munich (city utility of Munich). Here he was decisively involved in the development of the thermal strategy 2040, in the expansion of geothermal energy for the city of Munich and especially as project manager of the unique research project Grame.

With Dr. Christian Hecht not only lost the city of Munich a valuable employee, but also the entire geothermal industry mourns for one of their thought leaders. Over the years, we met at several conferences and events of the geothermal sector in Germany and I remember a truly passionate and great advocate for geothermal energy. We will remember him as a passionate geothermalist and overall great person.

Our thoughts are during these hours, especially with his wife and his family.
