The developer for the 80 MW Jaboi geothermal power project in Sabang, Aceh expects drilling for first phase development of 10-15 MW to be finished in February 2017.

The geothermal project at Jaboi in Aceh, Indonesia by Sabang Geothermal Energy has already started drilling. The project plans with a power generation potential of 10 to 15 MW.

As reported locally, Project Manager and Chief Technical Geothermal Geothermal Jaboi, Sabang, Matoyo expects drilling to progress according to plan and the first stage drilling should be completed in February 2017.

The developer PT Sabang Geothermal Energy has a license by the Ministry of Energy in place to build a geothermal power plant on site.  As developers, he sees the company to proceed then soon with the construction of a geothermal power plant which would conclude the first phase of the project successfully.

For this first phase, the company plans with four wells. The company will then sell the electricity to PLN.

Project Manager and Chief Technical Officer of the Jaboi project, also said that with preliminary estimates the resource could support up to 80 MW of geothermal power generation capacity.

“If successful, the energy produced from the geothermal plant of Jaboi could reach 80 MW in capacity, and will be supplied to PLN Banda Aceh via submarine cables,” he said.
