EDC is to commence operation after more than 2 years of construction and testing of the 49 MW plant in Nasulo, Negros Oriental in the Philippines.

Geothermal power is developing at a steady pace in the Philippines. According to local news, the second biggest geothermal plant in Negros Oriental mountains will be inaugurated this month in Nasulo, Valencia.

A recurring issue in the country is a constant energy supply deficit in the country, and geothermal energy is one of the ways Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is set to tackle the matter. The same source states that the plant will soon start commercial operation of its Nasulo geothermal power plant with an installed capacity of 49 MW before the end of this month.

The new power plant will be transferred to EDC to commence operation after more than 2 years of construction and testing. It is expected to serve several power contracts sealed between EDC and some power distributors.
