As part of the celebration of the Year of Italy in Latin America, Enel Green Power has inaugurated a geothermal exhibition at Museo Interactivo Mirador in Santiago, Chile.

On Tuesday this week, Enel Green Power inaugurated the exhibition ” “Geothermal, Italian Energy from the Heart of the Planet”at Santiago’s Museo Interactivo Mirador (MIM).

“The exhibit will allow students, teachers and families to learn more about geothermal energy, as well as the science behind this clean energy source, in a playful and fun way.

The exhibit is one of the initiatives organised in celebration of The Year of Italy in Latin America, which is being promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aims to highlight the different features of Italy’s presence in Latin America.

“MIM is taking part in this initiative by offering a space in which visitors get to know more about science, in order to learn more about current important subjects such as sustainable energy in Chile,” said MIM Director Orieta Rojas. “Children, young people and families, will learn in a didactic and innovative way about the history, development and future prospects for geothermal in our country.”

“This exhibit is a valuable opportunity to help increase knowledge of geothermal, an energy that in Italy has more than 100 years of successful development behind it,” saidSalvatore Bernabei, Enel Green Power’s General Manager for Chile and the Andean Countries “This exhibit is particularly important for Chile, where this year Enel Green Power will lay the foundation stone of Cerro Pabellón, South America’s first geothermal plant. It will be located in Ollagüe, in the Antofagasta region”.

The Enel Green Power exhibit is based on three pillars: “to see, know and learn”, and aims to both raise awareness of geothermal energy and bring people into contact with the renewable and clean energy source from an early age. In Chile geothermal energy, which comes from the Earth’ heat, is not widely known, despite the resource’s great potential in the country. The exhibit will also be presented in Mexico, Peru and Colombia and will be supplemented with other activities, such as seminars, workshops and internships in Italy for students. Additionally, Enel Green Power has committed to collaborate in the implementation of a geothermal energy section that will be a permanent part of the MIM Energy Room.

The opening ceremony was attended by Jimena Jara, Chile’s Undersecretary of Energy; Marco Ricci, the Italian Ambassador to Chile; MIM Director Orieta Rojas; Maurizio Bezzeccheri, Enel Green Power’s Head of Latin America; Salvatore Bernabei, General Manager of Enel Green Power for Chile and the Andean Countries; General Manager of Enersis Luca D’Agnese and Marcelo Tokman, ENAP General Manager. They each visited the exhibit, where they could see – via infographics, video and touch screen technology – the more than 100 years of history of a renewable energy source that Chile has in abundance. Students from different schools also visited this presentation with them.

The exhibit will remain at MIM – which is part of the Chile’s Presidency Foundations Network – between September 7st and September 30th. Entrance is free beyond the cost of entry to the museum.
