The African Union has released details on the 11 applications received under the Call for Expressions of Interest for the 5th application round of the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility for East Africa.

In a release today, the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility for East Africa (GRMF) has provided details on expressions of interest received for the 5th application round for funding under the GRMF facility.

The AUC officially acknowledges that on 12 December 2017 eleven (11) Expression of Interest (EoI) for the GRMF 5th Application Round were received on time and were accepted for bid opening, which took place on the same date. The eleven EoI consisted of six (6) Surface Studies and five (5) Drilling Programmes. Apart from five (5) SS projects all included a request to support related infrastructure to upgrades. The EoI came from 6 countries(Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania) and were submitted by private, as well as public entities.

Currently, a completeness check, the identification of potential rejection grounds as well as the full evaluation are carried out. It is envisioned that all applicants shall receive feedback regarding their EoI in the end of February 2018.

All applicants with successful EoI in AR 5 – including those who have already passed the EoI stage in the AR 1 to AR 4 but have to-date not managed to submit a successful RfA, will be invited to the mandatory pre-bidding workshop.  The exact date and location still are to be announced. Invitation letters shall be sent accordingly.
