Company Fonroche has secured a geothermal exploration license in the greater community of Strasbourg in Alsace, France and plans to start work on the project in January 2015.

In early 2015, French energy company Fonroche plans to start drilling on a geothermal site within the municipality of Strasbourg in Alsace, France. The company holds an exclusive exploration license (PER).

At a recent Press Conference the company informed the population of its planned activities also to tackle concerns about possible impact to houses nearby.

The company now plans to start tests near Illkirche and Eckbolsheim near Strasbourg.

With the project the company has ambitious objective. In the future it wants to secure up to 80% of the heat requirements for the greater community of Strasbourg. In an EGS system, Fonroche plans to inject water into geological faults at a depth of 3,500 meters and then derive hot water for heat production and if possible power generation as well.

Group Fonroche has 10 geothermal projects under development, according to its website and has bought its own drilling rig for these activities.
