French geothermal syndicate expands its geothermal heating plant

A Joint Geothermal Syndicate in Maisons-Alfort in the outskirts of the French Capital Paris, is installing a new generator set to support the expansion of its major geothermal heating plant.
In an announcement by UK-based power systems firm Centrax Gas Turbines, it is reported that the company has won an order for a new generator set to support the expansion of a major geothermal heating plant just outside of the French Capital Paris.
The new 5.3 MW unit is to supply electricity and heat to “complement the output of a geothermal installation that feeds a district heating system supplying more than 12,000 houses, apartments, schools, businesses and one university.
The new plant is scheduled to be ready in the beginning of November with the start of the next heating season in Maisons-Alfort in the outskirts of Paris.
Dalkia is the site operator, chose by the Joint Geothermal Syndicate and Sermet is acting as a consultant on the project.
Maisons-Alfort has been utilizing geothermal energy for heating since 1985 avoiding approximately 22,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
