The Geo-T Expo in Essen will one again bring industry and research together, in one of the largest European events, showcasing the multiple uses of geothermal both for heat and electricity generation.

After its successful premiere in 2013, the GEO-T Expo will once more invite people to the energy metropolis of Essen in the autumn. On November 11 – 13, 2014, Messe Essen will become the meeting place of the international geothermal industry – a sector for which the International Energy Agency (IEA) is forecasting great growth worldwide for the next few decades. The trademark of the GEO-T Expo is that it brings industry and research together. For example, the DGK Geothermal Congress organised by GtV – Bundesverband Geothermie (“Federal Geothermal Association”) will once more take place during the fair. Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, and Johannes Remmel, Minister of Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, will be the patrons of the GEO-T Expo.

The GEO-T Expo will concentrate on the possibilities of utilising geothermal heat for the heat and cold markets as well as for electricity generation. The trade fair will portray the entire value added chain in the sector: from near-surface via medium-deep right up to deep geothermics. At Messe Essen, exhibitors from Iceland to Turkey will show new products and services (amongst others) from the fields of drilling and exploration, power station technology and planning as well as seismology and project development. The range offered by the industry is meeting with great international interest: Even now, delegations from Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia and Turkey (amongst other countries) have already announced their participation.

GEO-T Expo Will Bring International Market Participants Together

After the fair of the geothermal industry introduced the boom market of Turkey in 2013, attention will centre on Iceland this year. The island of geysers is the European trailblazer with regard to geothermal utilisation and, as the official partner country of the GEO-T Expo 2014, will bring comprehensive know-how to Essen together with the Iceland Geothermal Cluster. At present, Iceland is meeting a quarter of its electricity needs from geothermal power stations and is also using geothermics as an energy source for its electricity-intensive server farms.
??Moreover, the GEO-T Expo 2014 will focus on the future market of East Africa. On the day before the fair (November 10), international experts will pass on their knowledge about the geothermal market in Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. Together with EnergieAgentur.NRW (“North Rhine-Westphalia Energy Agency”) and the Polish Consulate-General, the fair will also offer a special matchmaking event for the Polish geothermal market.

International Geothermal Project Will Start at the GEO-T Expo

The Danube region will be the focus of attention of GANDOR – an international research and development project which will start at the GEO-T Expo 2014. The objective will be to set up and extend a cross-border geothermal network in Germany, Croatia, Serbia and Hungary. At the beginning, scientists from the four states will meet up at the GEO-T Expo on November 13 in order to network the geothermal research in the Danube region and to get to know representatives of the international geothermal industry.

GEO-T Expo Will Provide Information to Users and Investors

In a large number of forums, the industrial fair in Essen will offer trade visitors information appropriate for the target groups. For example, facility managers will be able to learn everything about intelligent energy management with geothermal heat on Wednesday, November 12. On the same day, the forum entitled “Investment, Law & Insurance” will be oriented to insurance specialists and investors.

On the Wednesday as well, the “Architects and Civil Engineers Day” will give its premiere at the GEO-T Expo. For the first time in Germany, planners of buildings and installations will, in a qualified workshop, be able to obtain information about heat, cooling and energy production using geothermics. The theme day will be rounded off by a special matchmaking offer. What potential geothermics have for supplying cities and communities with electricity and heat will be explained by experts on Thursday, November 13. The forum entitled “GEO Town – Mayors and Municipalities Day” will be oriented to municipal politicians, environmental and energy officers as well as representatives of municipal utility companies and energy suppliers. On the same day, the “Campus Day & Scientific Showcase” will offer up-and-coming scientists an attractive platform – including a job and contact exchange as well as a special matchmaking offer.

Parallel to the GEO-T Expo: The DGK Geothermal Congress

For the second time, the trade fair in Essen will be enriched by the DGK Geothermal Congress organised by GtV – Bundesverband Geothermie. In specialist forums and workshops, the most important expert congress in the geothermal sector will examine topical subjects relating to electricity generation as well as to cold and heat production using near-surface and deep geothermics. 400 participants will be expected at Messe Essen once again in 2014.

The GEO-T Expo

The GEO-T Expo is the international trade fair for the geothermal industry in the energy metropolis of Essen. The event organised by Messe Essen GmbH is the global marketplace of the sector and promotes the dialogue between manufacturers, users and researchers once per year. At the successful premiere in 2013, 120 exhibitors from 16 countries presented innovative technology and services for geothermics. The next GEO-T Expo will take place at Messe Essen on November 11 – 13, 2014.
