Geothermal is an important economic factor with annual electricity sales from geothermal plants at around $500-600 million annually.

In a recent interview with Deputy Governor of West Java, Deddy Mizwar said that geothermal power plants in West Java have an installed capacity of 1,075 MW while there are additional 1,150 MW are under development. With the breakdown of the 11 locations that have four new licenses for geothermal operation available.

Deddy added, in 2012 the total geothermal electricity production reached 7,523 GWh, with a sales value of  more than $627 million. “In 2013, the total production of electricity in West Java was at 8,435 GWh with sales of  $577 million more.”

Deddy explained that based on data from the Ministry of Finance, proceeds received by the Provincial Government of West Java and all districts / cities in the time period of 2006-2011, was Rp 1,989 trillion. “While the special funds for geothermal results for West Java province during the last 8 years the realization of Rp 529.6 billion,” he added.

Geothermal energy sources in West Java, according to Deddy, spread over 52 districts and the manifestation of the 11 areas are the largest in Indonesia.
