The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia recently commented that the new law that would unlock the exploitation of geothermal resources in forested areas is moving forward.

After a rather long time, it now seems Indonesia is closer than ever to pass its new geothermal legislation that would make it easier for geothermal projects to be developed in forested areas of the country. All factions in the parliament have agreed to pass the new law, so things are looking good for the expansion of geothermal in the country.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik stated in a recent Budget Meeting that the previous law creates several hurdles for geothermal development and makes it more expensive than it should be. Considering the need for power that Indonesia needs to fuel its economy, geothermal can provide a green and cost effective alternative.
