IRENA reports that geothermal provided up to 35,000 direct and indirect jobs in the United States 2012 - 2013

Green energy keeps generating jobs despite the downturn in the economy. In an article on renewable energy jobs, the authors report that “A 2013 report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) found 3.4 million green jobs in the United States at the end of 2011.” based on official figures posted in the Renewable Energy World Website.

Within these 3.4 million jobs, “Geothermal: In a May 2014 report, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) found that the geothermal industry supported 35,000 direct and indirect American jobs from 2012-2013. The Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) estimated in a 2013 report that the geothermal industry is able to generate about 25,000 more jobs than the natural gas industry at a capacity level of 500 MW.”
