U.S. Census Bureau: In 2012, geothermal power generation represented around 10% of all renewable power generation revenues in the U.S. or about $1 billion.

The U.S. Census Bureau for the first time published economic census statistics for wind, geothermal, biomass and solar electric power generation.

What is rather interesting is looking at the other renewables. With hydropower and wind power playing a huge role representing around  74% of total renewable energy revenue, geothermal represents about 10% or nearly double the revenue that from solar power revenues.

Naturally this has to be treated careful due to the fact that these numbers represent the year of 2012 and since then Solar installations have grown, it still showcases the great role of geothermal and the revenues it provides in the overall context.
This tool will surely become a great tool for practitioners in the industry, helping them analyse the overall picture and the more and more relevant role of geothermal in the whole renewables industry.
