A geothermal project in Montelago, Philippines is planning to develop direct use projects alongside its core power generation project, among them fish farming, food dehydration and a large scale resort and geothermal spa.

As part of the development of a 70 MW geothermal power project in Mindoro, Philippines, the developer, Emerging Power Resource Holdings, plans a selection of additional direct use projects.

The project plans to use excess heat from the power project for fish and shrimp farming operations, food dehydration, but also a geothermal spa as part of a larger up to 500 rooms resort and spa development.

The company plans to create joint ventures with companies on these non-core activities and hopes to create additional revenue streams. At the same time these other projects will increase the economic value for the region, as this allows the creation of more local jobs for the communities nearby and provide a tool for further economic growth.

The developer mentions specifically the Icelandic Blue Lagoon as an example on the potential for the creation of a spa with an option to create all kinds of products that utilize the geothermal brine that is expectedly very rich in minerals.

The project is developed by Emerging Power Resource Holdings Inc. (EPRHI) in tandem with Dutch company IF Technology and Constellation Energy Corp. It is located near the hot spring of Barangay Montelago, Naujan in Oriental Mindoro.
