Steve Ponder, Executive Director of the Geothermal Resources Council explains why geothermal energy is so important for California's future.

In an opinion article posted yesterday in The Sacramento Bee Newspaper, Steve Ponder executive director of the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) provides an good overview of the paramount role that geothermal energy has in California.

As stated in the article, California is spearheading renewable energy in the US with ambitious goals (Gov. Jerry Brown is pursuing a goal for California to get at least 50 percent of its power) and considering the geology of the state, geothermal power is a jey resource to exploit, not only for its green factor but also for its baseload capabilities that allow for reliable, constant energy and to further expand other more volatile renewables such as solar or wind.
