Heavy rainfall in South Australia halts work at the Paralana project of Australian Petratherm in joint venture with Beach Petroleum and TRUenergy Geothermal.

Reported from Australia, geothermal developer Petratherm had to halt work on its Paralana project site in southeast South Australia, due to heavy rainfall in the region.

The heavy rain makes it difficult to deploy equipment to be used for fracture stimulation. It is expected that this will delay the project by one month.

“The aim of the fracture stimulation process is to create a fracture network and connect it to existing natural fracture networks, as well as assisting in determining the location of wells. Paralana is Petratherm’s flagship geothermal project. Beach Petroleum and TRUenergy Geothermal are joint venture partners in the project, which was granted $62.8 million in 2009 as part of the Federal Governments Renewable Energy Demonstration Program.”
