The Hungarian geothermal district heating project of Hungarian PannErgy and Icelandic Mannvit are advancing, with drilling to start at the project at Miskolc and reinjection wells to be drilled at the Szentlörinc project.

Reported by Icelandic engineering firm Mannvit, which works in Hungary, “the first phase of a geothermal district heating development project of up to 40 MWth began this month with drilling of the first well in the town of Miskolc in eastern Hungary. The well depth is planned to be 2.3 km and all geophysical and geological research, well design and drilling supervision will be carried out by Mannvit. Miskolc is one of the three largest cities in the country with approximately 200,000 residents.

Work on the first district heating project in Hungary, in the town Szentlörinc, continues with a planned reinjection well to be drilled at the end of May, 2010. The first well in this town was successfully drilled last fall. The reinjection well is planned to be approximately 1.8 km deep and all geophysical and geological research, well design and drilling supervision will be carried out by Mannvit. Commissioning of the district heating system is planned for late fall, 2010. Mannvit is responsible for all design, bid preparation, tender evaluation, site supervision and commissioning (EPCM contract) for this part of the development project.”

The project is being developed by Hungarian PannErgy, with Mannvit as the engineering partner in the project and the activities of both firms in Hungary and the region.
