Iceland Drilling will start the drilling operations in August 2016 and expects to use this 3rd well for production.

Excellent news from the Caribbean were local news report that drilling operations are expected to commence soon to begin on a third exploratory well in the search for geothermal energy in Montserrat.

The same source details that “the island´s Government of Montserrat and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) announced Tuesday that the contract for the drilling of the third exploratory well at St Georges Hill in Montserrat was awarded to the Iceland Drilling Company (IDC). A contract for £5.1m was signed on Friday 8th April 2016. It is anticipated that IDC will mobilise in July 2016 and drilling to commence in August 2016”

IDC and the Government seem to be very excited since the two previous wells were done for testing purposes, this third one could act as a production well. One of the two initial ones will likely be used for reinjection.

The next necessary steps needed to develop the business case will be spearheaded by the “Geothermal Steering Committee” in the coming months.
