Iran's New Energies Committee in the Office of Vice-President for Science and Technology announces ambitions plans for 5,000 MW of electricity to the country's grid in the next five years with a prime role for renewable energy.

Following news on a tender for a 5 MW geothermal plant in Iran, the country now announces ambitious energy plans based on renewable energy.

Yousef Armodeli, secretary of New Energies Committee in the Office of Vice-President for Science and Technology, announced the above-stated remark, adding that 5,000 MW electricity is expected to be generated under the country’s five-year economic development plan (ending March 2015).

“Using renewable sources of energy, equipment of scientific and technological centers, supporting knowledge-based companies, using solar, wind, geothermal and biomass energies are among measures under way by eight specialized committees,” SHANA quoted Armodeli as saying on Wednesday.
