Japan's Minister of Industry has approved the introduction of feed-in-tariffs for renewable energy, providing a tariff of $0.33-0.51 for geothermal power, starting July 1, 2012.

Reported earlier this week, Japan approved the introduction of feed-in-tariffs FIT), that effectively provide higher rates for power generated from renewable energy sources and projects.

The government expects that revenues from renewable generation and related equipment could expand to more than $30 billion by 2016.

The subsidies will come into force on July 1 and will provide a feed-in-tariff for geothermal ranging from $0.33 to $0.51 per kilowatt hour of geothermal power, as previously reported on ThinkGeoEnergy.
