The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has announced that it will provide financial backing to seven geothermal projects that intend to utilize heat from hot springs for the generation of electricity.

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has announced that it will provide financial backing to seven geothermal projects that intend to utilize heat from hot springs for the generation of electricity.

The project, so the Japan Times, will cover six different regions and include the hot springs area of Atagawa in Higashiizu (Shizuoka Prefecture), the spa area at Arifuku in Gotsu (Shimane Prefecture) and the town of Ashoro in Hokkaido.

Funding, so the Ministry will be provided through Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp. for survesy on those seven projects.
