In a personal piece in a local paper, John Lund - formerly with the Geo-Heat Center at Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls in Oregon talks about his passion for geothermal energy, geothermal direct use, his teaching and his own geothermal well in the backyard.

Among a large number of outstanding individuals in the global geothermal sector, few stand out as much as John Lund. As the most outspoken advocate for geothermal direct use, for heating and others, he has been working in the sector for decades and taught civil engineering curriculum courses for more than 30 years at Oregon Tech.

Having written some 250 papers and lectured on geothermal heat in 45 countries, he has been the author of the Global Update on Geothermal Direct Use by the International Geothermal Association for many many years.

The global update provides a fantastic overview on how geothermal energy is being utilised across the world for heating and related purposes.

His 2015 paper on “Direct Utilization of Geothermal Energy 2015 Worldwide Review“, written together with Tonya Boyd, can be found here (pdf).

In a recent article in – likely his home paper – he talks about his passion for geothermal energy, his work at Oregon Tech and the former Geo-Heat Center at the school, but also his own private geothermal well in his backyard.

I nice article on a truly unique personality in this geothermal world of ours. Thank you John for all your hard work on behalf of the industry.
