KenGen has ambitious plans to build 3 more geothermal plants by 2018 adding 350MW of power to Kenya's grid.

In a recent post from Reuters, KenGen’s CEO has announced that his company will invest “at least $710 million” in geothermal and wind power in order to add another 450 MW to the national grid.

The country is planing to rapidly increase its electricity generation capability and go from the current 2,500 MW now to “about 6,700 MW by 2017” according to Reuters.

Out of the 450MW, 350MW would be for geothermal plants and 100 for wind power projects. These 350MW will come from “three geothermal power plants in the Rift Valley’s Olkaria, where other plants are based.”
