Kenya has launched a website with a database on projects currently under way in Public Private Partnership model in the country. The database includes currently three geothermal projects in Menengai and Olkaria.

A database launched in June 2018, features Public Private Partnership projects in Kenya, as shared by Geothermal Development Company.

The website can be found here (direct link to the energy & petroleum projects).

The database currently includes three geothermal projects, two in Menengai and one in Olkaria.

The projects are:

  • 35 MW Menengai Phase 1 (Sosian Energy) – GDC
  • 35 MW Menengai Geothermal Project (Quantum Energy) – GDC
  • 140 MW Olkaria Geothermal PPP project – KenGen

The database currently misses the third geothermal project at Menengai under an IPP/ PPP model by OrPower. According to GDC, the company is “finalizing some conditions precedent” and as soon as this is done it will “get the green light to start power plant construction”.

We reported on developments for the projects by Quantum and Sosian recently, both have initiated work on their projects.
