In its new budget, the Kenyan government allocates about 30% more for geothermal development.

In announcement by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Henry Rotich, announced the new National Budget for Kenya.

With increased spending on infrastructure, geothermal development spending will increase by about 30% from 10 billion shilling ($100m) to 13.2 billion shilling ($133m). The country will also increase efforts on enhancing electricity connection with a spending increase of about 50%.

Overall the country plans to spend $587 million for investments in the energy sector, for power transmission, rural electrification, geothermal development, street lighting and last-mile power connectivity.

The money for geothermal will go to Geothermal Development Company.
