Tawau Green Energy is expecting to bring its planned 30 MW geothermal power plant project at Apas Kiri, Malaysia online in 2016 at an estimated cost of $155 million.

Malaysia’s first geothermal power plant planned in Apas Kiri, is expected to be operational and deliver power in 2016, according to the country’s Minister for Energy, Green Technology and Water Dr Maximus Ongkili.

He reports that the project undertaken by Tawau Green Energy Sdn Bhd (TGE) is currently preparing the project site. The project is located on a 12 square kilometer site and planned with a 30 MW power generation capacity.

The project’s cost is estimated at RM506 million ($155 million).

The power plant at Apas Kiri, would be the first renewable and sustainable project of its kind in Malaysia, with power to be sold to the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) grid. It was originally scheduled for completion in 2015.
