For the extension of the Olkaria geothermal power plants in Kenya of up to 280 MW, four companies have pre-qualified for the tender of the plants. The companies are Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Fuji Electric and Alstom.

Reported by Bloomberg, four companies have pre-qualified for a tender of the extension of the Olkaria geothermal power plants in Kenya.

The companies that can now provide tender documents until February 24, 2011 are the big turbine producers, Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Fuji Electric from Japan, as well as Alstom from France.

Two of the Olkaria plants (Olkaria I and II) are run by KenGen with 160 MW and the other one by Ormat Technologies (Olkaria III) with 48MW. The extension is planned for Olkaria I and a new Olkaria IV site with an expected capacity of 280 MW (4x70MW units).
