New geothermal beach planned for city of Reykjavik, Iceland

With initial drawings ready, the city of Reykjavik in Iceland is planning its second geothermal energy heated beach in Gufunes in the Grafarvogur part of the city.
Late last year we reported on plans for additional geothermal beaches being considered in Reykjavik, Iceland.
The city already has a geothermal heated beach at Nauthólsvík not far from the city airport and the University of Reykjavik. Geothermal water pumped into the sea heats up the water at the beach to around 12-15 centigrades in the summer time.
With initially two sites considered, one in Gufunus (in the Grafavogur area), the other one at Skarfaklettur, near the industrial harbour of Reykjavik. Now it seems priority is the beach development at Gufunes. The beach would be located near the Gufunes park.
The area sees a lot of developing interest and new planning strategy include the establishment of film studios and further apartment buildings.
