The ongoing African Rift Geothermal Conference in Nairobi, provides a great inside into the ambitions of East African nations in utilizing their geothermal resources and develop power projects.

Currently ThinkGeoEnergy is attending the 4t African Rift Geothermal Conference (ArGeo) in Nairobi, Kenya. The conference is set in the beautiful complex of the United Nations here in the city.

I have taken lots of pictures, but am currently not able to upload them as there are certain websites locked-out and this includes Flickr, where ThinkGeoEnergy hosts all of its pictures on an open-source / creative commons license basis. The website can be accessed here: www.flickr.com/thinkgeoenergy

I will try to upload some later today, but will have to see.

The event is well attended with more than 600 people from all corners of the world. To be here rejuvenates enthusiasm about geothermal, given that there is such an interest in making geothermal power development and generation a reality here in Eastern Africa. Refreshing after the more reserved attitude towards geothermal in other parts of the world. Hence a lot of people are here hoping to get into the game.

One thing though is very clear, countries are looking for financially strong players to join their development offers and are very keen to build up their own geothermal capabilities to not depend solely on foreign expertise.

More is to follow here.
