Legislative efforts to move permitting authority for geothermal projects to Hawaii County have failed and permitting authority will remain with the state of Hawaii.

Recent legislative efforts planned to give authority for geothermal project permitting to Hawaii County did not succeed.

Therefore House Bill 106, as reported by Hawaii Tribune-Herald, will leave the permitting for geothermal projects in the hand of the State of Hawaii.
