Philippine DOE will address core issues raised about indigenous peoples rights over its re-classified hydro and geothermal service contracts.

Local news from the Philippines detail that the country’s DOE will resolve the core issues raised about indigenous peoples’ (IP) rights over its re-classified hydro and geothermal service contracts to be offered via its self-designed open and competitive selection process (OCSP) in the award of renewable energy projects.

The same source explains that DOE director Mario C. Marasigan has acknowledged such as an investment dilemma raised by many, but he noted that “the NCIP (National Commission on Indigenous Peoples) has committed to cooperate as long as there is transparency in applying for clearance and permits.” He added that a “dialogue between NCIP, DOE and RE developers is also welcome.” That would be beyond the consultations already undertaken by the department which culminated in Cebu last week.
