Key NZ geothermal players have received awards for their excelling performance in several areas at the 2015 Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards

 The following are the winners of the 2015 Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards:

ENERGY PROJECT OF THE YEAR

Award for the energy sector project that has been planned and executed with excellence and which will deliver significant benefits to stakeholders, including the wider community.

This category is open to New Zealand organisations and joint venture operations completing energy projects in New Zealand within the last two years across the entire energy sector. The award is assessed for the 24 months to 31 March 2015. The finalists for 2015 are;

Contact Energy – Wair?kei Investment Programme

King Country Energy – G5 turbine replacement: innovation through simplicity

Transpower – North Auckland and Northland Project

INNOVATION IN ENERGY AWARD

Award for the strongest overall demonstration of innovation in the New Zealand energy sector.

This category is open to New Zealand energy sector organisations and energy projects in New Zealand and is being assessed for the 12 months to 31 March 2015. The finalists for 2015 are;

Simply Energy – Lowering barriers to entry through innovation

Transpower – emsTradepoint – Advancing physical energy markets

Unison – Unison’s Mesh Radio Network

HEALTH AND SAFETY INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR

Award for the strongest overall demonstration of excellence in a health and safety initiative carried out by an organisation operating in the New Zealand energy sector.

This category is open to organisations operating in the New Zealand energy sector and is being assessed for the 12 months to 31 March 2015. The finalists for 2015 are;

Mainpower – Lone Worker Safety System

MB Century – How do I know you are competent?

Shell Todd Oil Services – Zero Harm @ Ruru

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR

Award for the strongest overall demonstration of excellent environmental management in a initiative by a New Zealand energy sector organisation.

This category is open to New Zealand energy sector organisations and is being assessed for the 12 months to 31 March 2015. The finalist for 2015 are;

Mighty River Power – ‘Take Charge’: Powering up on homegrown energy

Powerco – Gas Environmental Programme

Transpower – Successfully reducing New Zealand’s SF6 emissions

COMMUNITY INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR

Award for an outstanding initiative that has demonstrated wide reaching benefits to both the organisation and community involved.

This category is open to New Zealand energy sector organisations and is being assessed for the 12 months to 31 March 2015. The finalists for 2015 are;

Chevron – Community Learner Driver Programme

Meridian Energy – A powerful partnership – KidsCan

Mighty River Power and Tauhara North No.2 Trust – Mauri Waiariki:  Harnessing the life force of geothermal energy for community good

New Zealand Aluminium Smelters – Kakapo recovery programme – Back from the brink:  saving a New Zealand taonga

YOUNG ENERGY EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR

Award for the standout person aged under 40 in the New Zealand energy sector defined by their achievements for the 12 months to 31 March 2015 or culmination of achievements up to that date.

This category is open to Individuals working in the New Zealand energy sector aged under 40 and is being assessed for the 12 months to 31 March 2015. The finalists for 2015 are;

DETA Consulting – Jonathan Pooch – Managing Director

Powerco – Jemma Stevenson – Legal Services Manager

Shell New Zealand – Kerry Williamson – Maintenance Engineering & Project Delivery Manager

 

ENERGY EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR

Award for the standout executive in the New Zealand energy sector defined by their achievements for the 12 months to 31 March 2015 or culmination of achievements up to that date.

This category is open to individuals working in the New Zealand energy sector and is being assessed for the 12 months to 31 March 2015. The finalists for 2015 are;

Contact Energy – Mike Dunstall – General Manager Geothermal Resources and Development

Genesis Energy – Albert Brantley – Chief Executive

Simply Energy – Stephen Peterson – Managing Director

CONSUMER NZ ENERGY RETAILER OF THE YEAR

Award for the energy (electricity and/or gas) retailer with the strongest overall performance in New Zeland for the year. In association with Consumer NZ.

The award is assessed by Consumer NZ members through the results of the 2015 Consumer NZ energy providers’ survey and a judging panel comprising Consumer NZ and Energy Newsrepresentatives.

Finalists and the winner will be revealed at the awards night.

LARGE ENERGY USER INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR

Award for outstanding energy-related initiatives that have delivered significant benefits, carried out by large energy users.

This category is open to large energy users with single or multiple sites. The award is assessed for the 12 months to 31 March 2015. The fiinalists for 2015 are;

ANZ – Small savings in many buildings: energy efficiency at ANZ (without silver bullets)

ANZCO Foods – Energy management programme by DETA Consulting for ANZCO Foods

Norske Skog – Minimising the cost of power at the Tasman newsprint mill
