British Columbia's Ministry of Energy and Mines helds successful geothermal permit sale for crown land close to Lilloet with a record breaking price paid per hectare. The successful companies are Salal Geothermal Inc. and 2149749 Ontario, Inc.

With results announced this week, the government of Canadian province British Columbia successfully held a geothermal permit tender for three permits for Crown land.

A total of 8,056 hectares have been sold for total proceeds of C$229,108. The crown geothermal permit tender was held by the Province’s Ministry of Energy and Mines and has been the first geothermal permit sale this year. While in previous sales the price per hectare didn’t go beyond $5,6, the price per hectare for one of the permits went up to $65.

This is a record price ever having been paid for a geothermal permit in Canada. The permit areas are close to Lilloet, British Columbia.

The Auctions held in British Columbia are a closed bid process and it is not clear how many companies actually sent in offers in the process. The companies that bid successfully are Salal Geothermal Inc. and 2149749 Ontario Inc. For none of the companies I have been able to find out details on their background and planning.
