Our Annual list of the Top 10 Countries based on Installed Geothermal Power Generation Capacity (MW) with the total of 14,060 MW as of January 2018.

The year of 2017 ended with a total installed geothermal power generation capacity of 14,060 MW. This is an increase of 792 MW that were added throughout 2017.

Additions this year were:

  • Turkey: 325 MW
  • Indonesia: 165/ 359 MW (in earlier statistics the first Sarulla unit was not added in 2016 – )
  • Chile: 48 MW
  • Iceland: 45 MW
  • Mexico: 25 MW
  • United States: 24 MW
  • Portugal (Azores): 3 MW
  • Japan: 5 MW and smaller plants
  • Hungary: 3 MW
