Transmark: "This success highlights the potential of the still relatively unharnessed, shallow, geothermal energy resource in the North Western part of Turkey"

Following a recent press from Transmark in February where the company successfully completed its second production well, the “KOC-II”, they now report that this can turn to be a proper commercial resource.

According to the company’s press release: KOC II well tests have proven a new commercial resource in Transmark’s Gulpinar license with strong flowrates and good wellhead temperatures.

The KOC II well was drilled to a depth of 2542m encountering over 400m of marble reservoir section. Transmark Services managed the project with supply of Gerry II drilling rig and auxiliary services. Global best practices were used to limit damage to reservoir permeability during drilling. These techniques have delivered very strong flowrates during test with well head temperatures more than capable of supporting economics for power plant development.

This success highlights the potential of the still relatively unharnessed, shallow, geothermal energy resource in the North Western part of Turkey. Transmark will continue developing the area by drilling additional wells and by starting discussions with various power plant manufacturers. It is envisaged to apply a binary cycle and it is considered to include a down hole pump to further materialize the potential of the geothermal fields.
