The Turkish General Directorate for Mineral Research and Exploration has chosen 20 cities for a $13 million investment program that is to help study the geothermal potential in these cities.

Reported last week from Turkey, the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration has chosen twenty cities in the country for a new study.

The study with a cost of $13 million, is supposed to explore the geothermal energy potential in these cities.

In the Central Anatolia region, seven cities have been chosen, including the capital Ankara. They will receive $7 million for studies on the potential. Ankara alone will receive $1.8 million.

The western provinces of Izmir, Manisa and Afyonkarahisar will receive $3.5 million. The remainder of $2.5 million will given to studies in the northwestern Marmara region and the eastern Turkey.

Turkey has moved ahead very strongly in the past 2-5 years, with an installed geothermal power generation capacity of now 311 MW.
