NV Energy approved the commercial operation date for Ormat Technologies' 30 MW McGinness Hills geothermal power plant in Lander County, Nevada, U.S.

Announced yesterday by Ormat Technologies Inc., the state utility NV Energy “approved the commercial operation date for the 30 MW (net capacity) McGinnes Hills geothermal power plant in Lander County, Nevada, U.S.

The plant boosts Ormat Technologies’ geothermal power generation capacity to 586 MW and will boost the company’s revenues by $21 million per year. The cost of generation at the facility is about $80/ MWh or 0$0.08/ kWh about 1% above the company’s average in the first quarter. Electricity is sold to NV Energy under a 20 year power purchase agreement.

With the COD approval, the plant generates the full income from its electricity sales from July 2, 2012.
