With the volcanic activity on the Big Island of Hawaii still a concern, the operator of the Puna geothermal plant report having secured the facilities and being prepared to remove any flammable materials should this become necessary.

With the emergence of 12 fissures and lava flows, about 35 structures have been reported destroyed. The fissures lie within a residential area and in proximity to the geothermal power plant of Puna Geothermal Venture (Ormat) on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Puna Geothermal Venture has reported that the facilities have been secured and precautionary measures are being taken to remove potentially flammable materials offsite.

The stunning picture, taken by Paradise Helicopters in Hawaii, shows how close the fissures that broke open are to the geothermal plant of Puna.
