The city of Zuerich saw the begin of the drilling for a geothermal heating project in Switzerland.

Already in early November, the city of Zuerich saw the begin of the drilling for a geothermal heating project in this city in Switzerland.

These exploration efforts have the goal to find out if the subsurface of the city is suitable for geothermal exploration. For this drilling campaign the city council has provided debt financing in the amount of CHF 19.89 million (US$ 19.8 million).

If the drilling will be successful the project will see an increase in the debt financing by the city for another CHF 18.81 million (US$ 18.8 million).

The project is in proximity to a city hospital at Triemli and could provide it with heating. The project – this make the developers here clear – cannot be compared to the project in Basel, as it only drills to a depth of 3,200 meters, about 2,000 meters less than in Basel.
