20 MW Maibarara plant to start commercial operation early 2014

Maibarara Geothermal and equipment supplier Fuji Electric announce that the start of the 20 MW Maibarara geothermal plant will commence early 2014.

In news reported from the Philippines, the developer of the Maibarara geothermal power plant has announced it will move the start of commercial operations of the plant to early  next year.

F.G. Delfin Jr., Maibarara Geothermal Inc (MGI) president, reports that the company will require additional tests on the 20-megawatt Maibarara geothermal plant as advised by equipment supplier Fuji Electric of Japan.

“It looks likely that we’ll extend the testing to early 2014. Because Fuji Electric, the main supplier of our equipment, wanted to do some additional tests,” he said.

In light of this, the power facility’s commercial operations will likely start in January instead of this month.

The tests are “more of safety and mechanical related” and not on the power facility’s geothermal resources, Delfin said.

“It’s a matter of safety and future operations, we agreed with them to do additional testing so that’s where we are,” he added.

MGI is a joint venture company 65 percent owned by PetroEnergy Resource Corp subsidiary PetroGreen Energy Corp. Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp and Philippine National Oil Co-Renewables Corp control the remaining 25 percent and 10 percent in MGI, respectively.”
