Addressing the challenges of covid-19 in Turkey – Ali Kindap, Zorlu Energy

As elsewhere in the world, Turkey is also fighting the challenges presented by the covid-19 situation. How Turkish energy company and one of the largest geothermal players in the country Zorlu Energy is addressing the challenges is shared in this interview.

Shared by JeotermalHaberler, our Turkish language service, Ali Kindap, General Manager Responsible for Investments, Operation and Maintenance at Turkish Zorlu Energy Group highlighted the action plans and practices they created as Zorlu Energy Group with the Geothermal News due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

What measures have you taken as Zorlu Energy Group for your employees?

The emergency plan of coronavirus has been created in our Istanbul head office and all plans are managed by Zorlu Holding Technical and Administrative Affairs Directorate. People with chronic illnesses and staff over the age of 65 work in isolation from their homes in line with the decision of Zorlu Holding Human Resources Directorate. Apart from this, all other employees are encouraged to work from home. In cases where it is not possible to work from home, all of our employees who come to the office are subjected to fever measurements and other controls before moving to the offices.

Could you briefly tell us about the measures you put into practice in power plants?

Apart from our head offices, we have also taken additional measures in our power generation plants, which are critical for our country. First of all, I would like to state that we continue uninterrupted electricity production in all our power plants. As a result of the measures we have taken, we continue to work in shifts of our critical personnel for the enterprise by applying isolation system in all of our power plants, especially our geothermal power plants, and we are unable to meet our country’s energy needs without interruption. In order to protect the health of our staff working in shifts and their families while continuing all these works, the staff who have completed the 2-week shift period are sent to their families to rest peacefully after the results of the shift change after the necessary results are taken.

What are your ongoing works in the process?

While continuing all of the activities in our power plants in the facility uninterruptedly, we continue our support well drilling and all mechanical, construction and electrical works necessary for the integration of the wells into the system.

Due to our belief on continuity of YEKDEM for Geothermal energy sector after 2020, we continue our study of the new field of research and to increase our current capacity by closely following new opportunities in the African, Asian and European markets and that the year 2020 is ripe for new international collaborations.

In addition to all of these, we are continuing all our work without interruption in our R&D projects supported by the European Union and TÜBITAK. We continue our meetings with our project partners from Europe and all over the world through video-conferencing and continue to strengthen our cooperation and social ties between countries.

We will continue to do our best and look forward to the good days to come, so that the current process will affect our company and our employees to a minimum.

We thank Ali Kindap for sharing. We also applaud the employees of Zorlu Energy Group for their uninterrupted energy production during these difficult days.
