Art meets geothermal energy – celebrating 200 years of geothermal at Larderello

A light art installation will be set up to be projected on the cooling towers of the Larderello geothermal power plant by Enel Green Power in Tuscany/ Italy. The installation is part of the celebration of 200 years of the geothermal industry in Tuscany.

A project called ‘Costellazioni Larderello / light art by Pisan artist Luca Serasini, will illuminate the four cooling towers of Enel Green Power’s geothermal plant, in Larderello, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the launch of the geothermal industry on June 30, 2018.

The installation includes a looped projection of images of constellations designed by the artist, which will use the towers transforming them into a work of art. The four constellations represented are the Bull, Orion, the Big Dipper (asterism of the Great Bear) and Pegasus. In the benches below, there will also panels be placed illustrating geothermal energy, with its history and characteristics,

The project is curated by Eleonora Raspi and promoted by Enel Green Power with the patronage of the Municipality of Pomarance and the collaboration of the councilor for culture Ilaria Bacci. The installation will be anticipated, on June 22 at Pomarance, from an exhibition, among other things, of drawings of some works used to create the images projected on the towers of Larderello.

“We always contribute to animating the summer season of geothermal areas, in collaboration with the Municipalities and with the associative and artistic realities of the territory” so Massimo Montemaggi, head of Geothermics Enel Green Power. “This year we wanted to organize special events to celebrate 200 years since the beginning of geothermal activity, and we wanted to do it by combining art and geothermics, two forms of energy that find fertile ground to express themselves in the warm-hearted lands “.
