Arverne, Banque des Territoires form new entity to support geothermal projects in France

Through Francilienne de Geothermie, Arverne and Banque des Territoires aim to support geothermal projects in France with financing and project execution.
The Arverne Group and public financial institution Banque des Territoires have announded the creation of Francilienne de Geothermie, a new entity that is dedicated to the development, financing, and operation of geothermal projects in the Île-de-France region in France. The entity aims to acquire stakes in geothermal projects in the Île-de-France region, thus positioning it to support in all phases of development, construction, finance, operation, and maintenance of the facilities.
Francilienne de Géothermie is 72% owned by Arverne Chaleur & Froid (Arverne Heating & Cooling) and 28% by Banque des Territoires. The partners have already committed to raising up to €45.1 million in equity for the development of five projects, supporting the energy transition in the Île-de-France region.
“With Francilienne de Géothermie, Arverne and Banque des Territoires are combining industrial expertise and investment capacity to scale up and make geothermal energy a pillar of the energy transition in the Île-de-France region, thanks to a discreet, continuous and economical solution,” said Gregory Van Den Perre, Director of Arverne Chaleur & Froid.
Arverne brings extensive experience in the development and operations of geothermal heating and cooling projects, drilling, and construction services. Through its Lithium de France subsidiary, Arverne is also working on a pioneering geothermal energy and lithium extraction project in the Alsace region.
“Banque des Territoires welcomes the creation of Francilienne de Géothermie with the Arverne group, which strengthens our actions and financing in support of geothermal development in the Île-de-France region. We have exceptional subsoil resources, particularly the Dogger aquifer, from which extracted heat is distributed through networks to heat cities and neighborhoods in the Île-de-France region. In addition to being environmentally friendly, this energy source is local and guarantees users stable and competitive prices over the long term,” added Marie-Laure Gadrat, Regional Director for the Île-de-France region at Banque des Territoires.
During the 2025 French Geothermal Days, then-Finance Minsiter François Bayrou called on the support of banks to ease the installation of geothermal systems, although the statement was made in reference to geothermal heat pumps. A report by the French Court of Auditors published earlier this year also recommended strengthening the role of financial support to speed up the pace of implementation of deep geothermal projects, with the aim of commissioning up to 10 geothermal doublets per year.
