The MOU between Baseload Power Taiwan and CPC Taiwan combines local and international expertise to support the Taiwanese geothermal sector.
Baseload Power Taiwan and state-owned energy company CPC Corporation Taiwan (CPC Taiwan) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to combine their expertise and resources to accelerate geothermal development in Taiwan. The parties aim to explore several opportunities through this partnership, starting with the Tuchang geothermal project in Yilan County.
Under the MOU, the parties will cooperate on resource evaluation, technical collaboration, due diligence, feasibility studies, and commercial discussions related to geothermal development. The agreement also includes exploring future joint investment structures that could support the growth of geothermal projects across Taiwan.
CPC Taiwan offers its local expertise and resources as part of the partnership. The company is already operating 5.4-MW Tuchang geothermal power project, which just came online earlier this year. CPC Taiwan is also heavily involved in several other research initiatives and partnerships that aim to generate data to help geothermal development in Taiwan.
Baseload Power Taiwan, as part of the Baseload Capital group, contributes its experience in developing and operating geothermal projects in multiple markets, including Japan, Iceland, and the United States. It has been active in Taiwan since 2019. Before the end of 2025, the company successfully formalized its cooperation with the Hongye Tribe in Hualien County, making it the first private developer to secure tribal consent for a geothermal project in Taiwan.
“Taiwan has some of the strongest geothermal potential in Asia and a clear ambition to expand renewable energy. Through this collaboration with CPC, we are bringing together complementary expertise to help unlock that potential. We see this as an important step not only for the Tuchang project, but for the long-term growth of Taiwan’s geothermal sector,” said Alexander Helling, CEO of Baseload Capital.
