Call for Abstracts: IMAGE – Advanced Geothermal Exploration, Iceland, Oct 4-7, 2017
The IMAGE (Integrated Methods for Advanced Geothermal Exploration) project will hold its final conference, October 4-7, 2017 in Akureyri in the North of Iceland featuring an extensive program and field trips. Deadline for submission of abstracts is July 1, 2017.
The four year project called IMAGE (Integrated Methods for Advanced Geothermal Exploration) was launched in November 2013 with the goal of harnessing research power of key research institutes in Europe and industrial players to develop novel exploration techniques for geothermal power.
The objective is to develop new methods to scrutinize and appraise geothermal systems in such a way that exploration wells can be sited with greater accuracy than before, thereby maximizing the success rate and reducing the cost of drilling associated with geothermal projects. In addition, such precision wells would reduce any potential environmental impact.
The final conference of the project, Novel approaches for Geothermal Exploration, will be held in Akureyri/ Iceland, October 4 – 5 2017. The conference marks the end of a four years long project on exploration and assessment of geothermal reservoirs.
The assembly is open to all geoscientists.
Call for Abstracts
The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 1 July 2017. Please note the length of abstract is one page, size A4.
Preliminary Agenda
- Sunday, Oct. 1st: Optional excursion to Reykjanes high-temperature area, its power plant and the drillsite of the IDDP-2, the deepest well in Iceland.
- Wednesday, Oct. 4th: IMAGE: Final Conference.
- Thursday, Oct. 5th: IMAGE: Final Conference.
- Friday, Oct. 6th: Optional excursion to experience the abundant geothermal activity in the North of Iceland, the new geothermal power plant at Þeistareykir and the Krafla high-temperature area. The unique nature around Lake Mývatn will be visited as well.
Venue & Location:
The IMAGE final conference will be held in HOF, Cultural Center, Strandgata 12, Akureyri, North Iceland, October 4-5, 2017.
Conference fee & registration:
The Conference registration fee ISK 12,000 (Approx. EUR 100), which includes the conference dinner and field trips. Deadline for registration is 1 September 2017.
Social Events
During the IMAGE Final Conference, “Novel approaches for Geothermal Exploration” we will offer you to attend two optional fieldtrips, involving some sight-seeing in Iceland’s magnificent nature and geothermal areas.
- Sunday Oct. 1st a five hour fieldtrip to Reykjanes peninsula. Departure from ÍSOR at Grensásvegur 9, at 08.30 am to Reykjanes high-temperature area, its power plant and the drillsite of the IDDP-2, the deepest well in Iceland. Arriving back in Reykjavík around 13.30 pm.
- Friday Oct. 6th, a day tour to Krafla and Theistareykir. Departure from Hof Cultural Center at Strandgata 12 in Akureyri at 8.00 am. Optional excursion to experience the abundant geothermal activity in the North of Iceland, the new geothermal power plant at Þeistareykir and the Krafla high-temperature area. The unique nature around Lake Mývatn will be visited as well. Arriving back to Akureyri around 18 pm.
